Here are the show notes for Fri Mar 3rd, 2023/ Season 4 Episode 23 ...

❿Headline: I mean, there are worse things to find in the crawl space... but ...

Notes:
- a teacher from a school in Massachusetts has been charged after a crypto mining op was uncovered in the school crawl space...
- he allegedly set up crypto-mining PCs in the school crawl space... an inspector found the setup...
- OK, I'm naive but I had no idea this was illegal... I didn't even think a teach er would get fired over this... let alone be arrested ...
- I thought the teach would more likely be given some award for ingenuity...
- it was an illegal operation going on and also was stealing electricity from the hard-working tax payers of Massachusetts... so now I know.
- BTW, the Police, the U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service, and the Department of Homeland Security were all involved in the investigation.

❾Headline: Did the President of Mexico really believe it was a photo of an elf?

Notes:
- the president of Mexico posted an elf photo on his social media last Saturday...
- the Associated Press believes that he did it in earnest... a serious post... and I should say, it's an elf-like creature from  Mayan folklore so not exactly an elf...
- idk if there are elves you guys... I'm not here to debate elves... I'm here to debate the photo of the elf... I just don't see it you guys...
- I personally like it that a country's leader posted something like this... that's pretty rare these days... idk anything about the Pres of Mexico but you don't get elf posts from too many world leaders so that's refreshing... right?
- I try not to steal photos but I got scared that the post would get taken down so I took a screen grab... if you don't have a chance to click the photo it is a tree at night... and maybe up in the tree is a creature with long hair and glowing eyes... or it may be a curved branch and a couple of stars...

❽Headline: Cars that will re-possess themselves are coming. What will happen to the hard working Repo Industry Representatives?!

Notes:
- Ford's patent for "Systems and Methods to Repossess a Vehicle" has made the news...
- Part of this patent has to do with cars of the future... no, wait, cars of the now in some cases... cars that can drive themselves already and cars that will have the capability in the future is what I'm talking about... with the technology in the patent Ford Motors would be able to move your car to where a tow truck driver is waiting for it... or even move the vehicle right to the repo company... or even to the junkyard... assuming that in this scenario you are behind in your payments...
- so the hard-working repo men and women will still have a place in the industry it seems...
- if this tech is already patented... we've got to be close to a future where they'll be able to repossess everything remotely! Don't you think??
Like, everything!! When you fall behind on your big screen TV payment, it'll wait 'til you fall asleep and then walk out the front door (robot-style).
Miss a payment on your bedroom set, it'll wait until you go to work, then it'll roll out the front door (I picture this one as using gyroscope technology and rolling down the street like a wagon wheel... )
- idk you guys, it's almost like we're gonna have to pay for the stuff we buy in the future...

❼Headline: I find gross stories a real challenge. Challenge Accepted!!

Notes:
- The headline from LiveScience.com: "Insect that flings pee with a butt catapult is 1st known example of 'superpropulsion' in nature"
- What else do we need to say... it's a weird story but some researchers are, no doubt, excited about how this bug catapults its pee...
- The bug is related to the cicada so you can probably picture what it looks like... it's a green bug...
- Maybe the caption on the photo is a good summation? "This tiny sharpshooter insect urinates and forms a droplet of pee on its... 'butt flicker’, before flicking it off."
- It seems like they're excited to apply this knowledge to robotics... where we see pee-flinging bugs, researchers see... idk, pee-flinging robots? (possibly other.)

❻Headline: World Record King has not run out of things to light on fire then catch...

Notes:
- This is David Rush who has 250 plus World Records. He's the guy who promotes STEM education through world record attempts.
- This time he's in the news for throwing and catching a fire sword 135 times in a minute.
- I'm sorry if that was a record you have been training for, he beat you to the on-fire sword-catching record. Maybe you could find some other sharp, dangerous object to light on fire? Stay strong and positivity-focused.
- To be fair... it sounds like that but the record is more like sword spinning, rather than throwing. Also, he wears a fireproof glove. I'm not criticizing, I'm just letting you know before you click the video in case you were hoping that he did it barehanded.

❺Headline: The Ugly Dog Story and How I got on the American News one time. A memoir.

Notes:
- The World's Ugliest Dog Contest happens every year in California.
- It is not about shaming the homely pooches, it is a celebration of their wonderful personality!
- This is in the news because applications are now being accepted for this year's contest.
- This whole deal is how I ended up on a Reno, Nevada newscast. I don't have a dog. I'm allergic. But I wrote a song for an Ugly Dog Contest winner and a reporter in Reno found my song on YouTube and included it in their story... and that's why I'm so incredibly famous in Greater Vegas area... it goes David Copperfield, then comedian Carrot Top, then me you guys.

❹Headline: The Ketchup Boat Guy Story Continues...

Notes:
- *At time of recording this has not been resolved...
- CNN earlier this week: "Heinz Needs Your Help to Find that Ketchup Boat Guy"
- Background: In January a guy named Elvis was rescued after being adrift in the Caribbean Sea for 24 days and he explained how he survived on ketchup.
- When the folks at Heinz heard this they wanted to buy Elvis a new boat with top-shelf navigational capabilities, but even though they reached out to the Dominican government (where Elvis is from), they haven't been able to track Elvis down.
- So they turned to the news orgs and social media for help...
- If you have any info for Operation: Ketchup Boat Guy, see the Heinz Instagram link...

❸Headline: (from ABC 7 Eyewitness News)
"New device from China allows couples to simulate kissing over their phones"

Notes:
- First of all, here in Canada they are going through a thing where technology from China is not being trusted... Government devices can't have TikTok as an example... so if you're in that type of scenario, you might not be able to have this kissing technology on your phone... sorry...
- it's silicone lips that attach to your phone... and they have some kind of lip-sensing technology with genuine lip motion... moving, kiss-you-back, artificial lips.
- supposed to cost $40 US.
- Target market is people in a long-distance relationship... but would also work for lazy people in different rooms...
- What if the kissing phone attachment is a better kisser than I am? What if my partner falls in love with the Phone Kisser 5000© ? Be wary!!

Nope. Goodnight

❷Headline: Paper and Gumption: the tossing record that changed the world!

Notes:
- I am trying to ramp up my headline-writing abilities icymi
- it was people from the Boeing Company who set this world record after carefully designing a paper aircraft that was able to fly 290 feet!
- That's almost as high as the Statue of Liberty... or the tower of Big Ben... or one-and-a-half times as tall as the castle at Disney World.
- it took hundreds of hours of design time and also a a pretty fantastic throw... and the record was officially acknowledged the other day...
- Airplane design was inspired by actual hypersonic aircraft...
- they practiced for four months before making an official attempt.
- if you Google 'hypersonic aerospace vehicles' there's quite a variety but maybe the most common design is a bit like a space shuttle... the paper airplane kinda looked like a space shuttle to me...

❶Headline: This Just In: We Never Learn! (a movie promotion saga)

Notes:
- Somebody in Sonoma, California was standing around a street corner while dressed as the Ghostface Killer from the Scream movies.
- In a very reasonable reaction to seeing this, people called 911.
- It was just a publicity stunt for the new Scream.
- BTW, Scream VI comes out March 10.
- Whenever anyone reports on this, the team behind this publicity stunt high fives each other.
